HISTORY

Tirupur Parish was created as a separate Parish divided from Pukklipalayam on 11.01.1934. Rev. Fr. Maria Joseph was the real founder of Tirupur who continued the Missionary work of conversion at places like Nallur, Iduvampalayam and Veerapandy. He bought 1.5 acres of land for the Catholics of Iduvampalayam area during 1946 and built houses for 10 newly converted Catholics within the land. Rev. Fr.Swaminathar constructed a small chapel in the site during 1961 in order to make them grow in faith by daily attending the Chapel for prayers. The parish priests of St. Catherine’s Church used to celebrate Mass on all Sundays at 8 am.

Catholics who migrated from various districts of Tamil Nadu for employment in and around Iduvampalayam area began to attend the Sunday Mass in good numbers as time went on. Rev. Fr. Maria Joseph was very much interested in supporting the interest shown by the Catholics in attending the Sunday Mass every week and so he helped for the extension of the Chapel with asbestos sheets during 1994. The Catholics of Iduvampalayam areas came forward to contribute and extended the Chapel in to a small Church which was blessed on 05.07.2009 by Most Rev.Dr. L.Thomas Aquinas, Bishop of Coimbatore.

It was a continuous demand of the Catholics of Iduvampalayam area to make it a separate Parish, separating it from St.Catherine’s Church, Tirupur. The Bishop declared it as a separate Parish from 04.05.2018 onwards with new presbytery, consisting 120 Catholic Families and a new Parish Priest Rev.Fr.Albert Nelson to continue the pastoral ministry to the Catholics of this area. The New Iduvampalayam Parish, dedicated to St. Joesph consists of the following villages….Namely Iduvamapalayam, Iduvai, Attayampalayam, Andipalayam, Periyandipalayam, John Jyothy Garden, SR Nagar, Kozhipannai Chinnandipalayam and Murugampalayam.
