                                                                           Bishop's Message

                                                                        November 2021

Dear Rev. Fathers, Religious and Laity,

On the first of November, we celebrate the feasts of all saints. I wish you all very happy feast of all saints. On this joyous day, the Church commemorates all the saints, known and unknown, canonised or not and in so doing, we honour the Holy Spirit who perfected them, and made them great. All these saints should be our role models who have to be imitated on earth and pray to them for their intercessions to God.

Having honoured the church triumphant in Heaven on November first, the church on earth today honours the members of the church suffering in purgatory, thus demonstrating the supernatural bond of the communion of saints.

The church teaches us that the souls in purgatory are helped by our daily prayers, by our charitable actions and offering of Holy masses. We learn from the history that praying for the departed souls, giving alms in their name and offering masses already existed. It is seen in the book of the Maccabees. The souls in purgatory, being unable to help themselves, depend on the prayers of the pilgrim church for their redemption. Offering of our prayers and sacrifices for the departed souls do not leave them forgotten or abandoned. It brings benefits to ourselves too, because it helps us to change our life for the better, to avoid sin and to prepare ourselves for a good and holy death.

Please exhort your parishioners to offer masses for the departed souls, requesting them to visit the cemeteries during this month. May I kindly request you to pray for our deceased Bishops, priests, religious and it is our obligation and duty as well.

                                                                                                                                                               Yours devotedly in Christ

                                                                                                                                                                           + L. Thomas Aquinas

                                                                                                                                                                           Bishop of Coimbatore
